Where to eat in Alcudia?

If you are thinking of staying in Alcúdia, a charming area in the northwest of Mallorca, where our fabulous Hotel Astoria Playa is located, are you wondering where you can dine? Well, you’ve come to the right place! We know of some of the best restaurants in and around Alcúdia.

Alcúdia, known in Roman times as Pollentia, was once the ancient capital of Mallorca. Contemporary Alcúdia is a small vibrant city, with an atmosphere and ambience that just makes you want to take a stroll and lose yourself in its streets; the place exudes history and culture.

To discover the city in its entirety, including some spectacular scenery, we recommend that you first climb up to the city walls where you can enjoy the views over the homes and shops that are typical of the area.

Of course, if you’re staying at the Astoria Playa, you will find plenty of gastronomic delights on offer in our restaurants. However, if none of these options appeals to you, you could try out one of the many exquisite restaurants in the local area.

The Cuisine of Mallorca

In the Alcúdia area, Mallorcan-style cuisine is very popular, the local people are very proud of their traditions, especially their typical dishes that employ ingredients that can be found close by, such as fresh fish, seafood from the Mediterranean Sea and local varieties of vegetables. The availability of fresh produce straight from the sea and off the land ensures that both visitors and locals alike can enjoy the best cuisine the island has to offer.

As to which Mallorcan dishes to try. We recommend the delicious Tumbet, a dish made of potatoes, aubergines, and fried red peppers, all mixed with herby tomato sauce and accompanied by pork loin, a real delight.

On the other hand, you really cannot visit the area without having tried the sumptuous Arròs Brut. This is one of the most traditional Mallorcan dishes. It is a spicy, brothy, rice dish, originally cooked with garden produce, meat and game, the ingredients of this dish tend to vary depending on the seasonal produce available. The locals are also very proud of their agriculture and are always keen on showcasing their local produce, with each village holding agricultural shows at different times of the year. We really do hope you will give some of the local dishes a try during your stay in the area, you won’t be disappointed!

Port Alcúdia

The municipality of Alcúdia is made up of 3 distinct parts: the municipal capital, Alcúdia, Playa de Alcúdia and Port d’ Alcúdia. Moving our attention to Port d’ Alcúdia, we can honestly say that it is by far the most popular area with visitors and no wonder! There are some fabulous restaurants offering dishes from all over the world as well as those mouth-watering local delicacies.

Port d’ Alcúdia is very lively; visitors are drawn by the endless leisure activities on offer. Its seafront promenade, in front of the marina, is a very popular area with its shops, bars and restaurants. Moving away from the port, you can enjoy a pleasant stroll along the sandy beach, it has many local amenities of its own including parasols, sun loungers and toilets. There also are plenty of water sports to enjoy, these include for example, a simple paddle on the shore, or for the more adventurous windsurfing, snorkelling, and glass bottom boat trips, ideal for both adults and children, all you need is good company!

If you are a lover of the great outdoors, or if you like to contemplate nature at its best, we recommend that you visit the Albufera de Alcúdia natural park, one of the most unique areas on the island. A place where you can lose yourself in nature, discover the fauna and flora of the park and enjoy a magnificent day out with your partner, your family or simply by yourself. Entrance to the park is free, but a permit is required from the visitors’ centre.
