If one of the highlights of your day is enjoying a delicious meal prepared with fresh ingredients and top-notch products, then you cannot miss the opportunity to visit the city´s food markets. There are four markets in Palma de Mallorca which are dedicated solely to gastronomy:

Santa Catalina Market

Located in one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Palma de Mallorca, the Santa Catalina market has adapted to modern times by perfectly blending two key elements. On the one hand, traditional stalls such as butchers, fishmongers, and greengrocers, and on the other hand, it has introduced several stalls where they serve freshly made food. The combination of these two elements has made the Santa Catalina market a must do stop when it comes to sampling the city´s vibrant culture. This covered market brings together some 50 of the best small, local artisan food producers, sellers, and experts in their respective field.  It is also the place for many people from Palma, to meet up, do their shopping and enjoy a wonderful breakfast at this fantastic place.

 L´Olivar Market

The Olivar market is one of the most legendary markets in the city of Palma de Mallorca offering dazzling displays of flowers, fruit, and vegetables, although it has also recently introduced various places where you can have a quick snack, it is still a very traditional market. Located a few meters from Plaza España, another main meeting point in the city, this market offers its visitors an amazing array of fresh and high-quality products making it the perfect place discover the secrets of the cuisine of Mallorca.

San Juan gastronomic market

The gastronomic market of San Juan is located in the Escorxador, which is the city´s old slaughterhouse. Today the Escorxador has been reborn into a cultural space and meeting point. In recent years, it has gained popularity among the locals for its variety of bars and restaurants as well as hosting one of the most charming cinemas in Palma de Mallorca that shows movies in their original versions.

Within this modern converted space, is the  San Juan market, which is the place to visit if you love tasting different foods. Here you will some of the most famous restaurants in Mallorca showcasing their specialities: oysters and shellfish, Mallorcan cuisine, ham and national cheeses, fideuás, grilled meats, Basque pintxos, tortillas, fried and grilled fish to name but a few.  San Juan market is the perfect place to try a little of whatever takes your fancy.

Market 1930

Market 1930 is the latest addition to this select group. Although the gastronomic concept is similar to that of the San Juan Market, we would recommend it for its fabulous location. Situated right on the Paseo Marítimo, Palma de Mallorca, one of the epicenters of the island's party and dance scene, makes Market 1930  the perfect place to dine before going for a drink in some of the most fashionable bars to be found in Mallorca. If partying and dancing are not your thing, don't worry, the Paseo Marítimo is also the perfect place to take a relaxing walk by the sea.

Festivals in Mallorca

Another great way to get to know some of the most charming markets on the island is to visit them during  the various festivals in Mallorca. These festivals are usually held on specific dates and their duration is usually quite short, but they are the perfect way to learn about the traditions and the most iconic products of Mallorca. These festivals generally revolve around a theme, such as  Olive oil or Sobrasada, honey, fish, and other local products, always giving visitors a chance to taste before they buy the produce. We would whole heartedly recommend you visit the Esporles sweet festival, a paradise for chocolate lovers.
